Construction of Kalanki underpass.

The 10-km Koteshwor-Kalanki road expansion project has been pushed back by a year due to multiple factors like shortage of construction materials, last year’s earthquakes and subsequent Indian trade embargo that triggered acute fuel shortages.



The Rs5.27-billion project, which started in June 2013, was scheduled to be completed by 2017. “As the project works have been affected for nearly a year, we expect it will be completed by 2018,” said Pradip Shrestha, spokesperson for the Division Road Office, Lalitpur. “The works have picked up pace since January.”

Under the project, the existing two-lane road will be expanded to eight lanes with separate carriageways, service tracks, green belts, bicycle lanes and footpaths on either sides.

R0$$ery in lalitpur

KATHMANDU: Police said that two incidents of r0$$ery were reported in the Kathmandu Valley on Sunday. Two motorcycle-borne persons r0$$ed a woman of cash at Sallaghari in Bhaktapur Municipality-1 today. Police said that the duo robbed Susmita Subedi (36) of Syangja, currently residing at Katunje, Bhaktapur of Rs 73,669. Similarly, a woman was r0$$ed of her gold chain in Kageshwori Manohara Municipality-12 today. According to a compla!nt lodged with police, two motorcycle-borne persons snatched away one tola chain from the neck of Sanju Thapa (30) of Harhar Mahadev, Bhimeshwori Municipality-12 in Dolakha

People in Butwal of Rupandehi today protested the Constitution amendment bill registered at the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat on Tuesday evening.

Students from many schools and academic institutions and commoners have brought the vehicular operation to halt across Butwal from this morning, protesting the amendment proposal claiming it split Province No. 5.No vehicles are plying on the road along the East-West Highway and North-South Siddhartha Highway while the markets have remained partially open.

Delineation of federal units is one of the four contentious issues covered in the amendment proposal, according to which some changes have been made in boundaries of Province No. 4 and Province No. 5.
